USW Cares: District 7 WOS, Next Gen Wrapping Up to Show They Care

Submitted by Charva Jones

A few weeks ago, a request was sent out from District 7 Women of Steel and Next Generation committees for donations to buy gifts for children of locked-out members of USW Local 7-669. The response was explosive as the generous members and locals in District 7 donated almost $20,000.

Three of Santa’s helpers, William Fulton, Shirley Rhye and Chavas Jones, were given the unenviable task of purchasing gifts for the list of children from two to eighteen years of age.

On December 4, with only 24 hours’ notice, thirty elves (WOS and Next Gen members) from Santa’s workshop arrived at the District 7 office to wrap the two gifts per child.

With all the bows and ribbons attached, they will be transported to the USW Local 7-669 Christmas Party on December 13 to be handed out by Santa and Mrs. Claus.

This project is just one of so many USW's amazing members do every day to give back to our communities. If you or your local are doing good things in your community, we want to hear about them.
