USW Cares: Hairy Men from USW Local 1155L Raise Money for Charity

Submitted by Van Tenpenny

faces4In late October, members from United Steelworker Local 1155L decided to hold a team participation event to raise money for charity by growing facial hair.

The cost for each member who participated was $20. Union members were faces5encouraged to sponsor people who they thought had a chance of winning. Helping to find participants were Crew Reps Rob Warden, Mike Kirby, Shaun Fults and Matt Young.

The rules were easy – don’t shave during the month of November. The event coordinators were lenient faces6though, allowing them to shave their necks or trim their mustaches, if they so desired.

On December 4, April Gibson (an independent judge) drew the winning name of Mark Freeman who chose to have the $460 donated to Prostate Cancer for his charity.

Presenting the cash was Local 1155 Financial Secretary Van Tenpenny, Extrusion OT Mike Kirby and No Shave Rep from B Crew Mark Freeman (Wormy).
