Making sure our legislators know who we are and what we need from them is a central part of the work we do in Rapid Response. We know nobody can do that better than our members. That’s why we are excited to announce the 2024 District 1 Michigan Lobby Day and Training.
Join us April 23 - 24, 2024, in Lansing, Michigan at the DoubleTree by Hilton located at 111 North Grand Avenue, Lansing, Michigan 48933.
We’ll have a full day of lobby training, followed by a day at the State Capitol meeting with legislators and elected officials about issues affecting Steelworkers.
Whether you are a new Rapid Response activist or a seasoned one, a Next Gen looking to more involved, or a Woman of Steel, this event is for you.
The success of the labor movement depends on our ability to build power through activism. Legislative engagement is one of the most immediate ways to fight against the efforts of employers to erode hard-fought workers’ rights. Through one-on-one conversations with our elected officials, we will show our representatives that we are prepared to fight for, and protect, the things that make the working class stable and strong.
Agenda
Never lobbied before? That’s alright!
On Tues., April 23, at 9 a.m., we will hold a Rapid Response and lobbying training class for all delegates.
In this class, you will learn about the USW’s Rapid Response program, the ins and outs of lobbying. We will go over all the issues we plan to lobby our state legislators on, and we’ll hear from leaders from the USW and the Michigan AFL-CIO. Lunch will be provided.
On Wed., April 24, we will head to the Statehouse to meet with our legislators; and we will meet back at that the DoubleTree to debrief after the meetings.
