Collective bargaining is fundamental to our work as USW leaders. It involves extensive preparations, from surveying our members to developing proposals. At the bargaining table, it requires an effective committee that can keep track of bargaining notes and explain why proposals are important to our members. At the same time, it’s essential that negotiating committees keep members updated about progress at the bargaining table.
In order to meet these demands, USW District 1 is coordinating a three-day Collective Bargaining Conference from September 23 - 25, 2024, in Independence, Ohio, for all local unions whose contracts expire between November 1, 2024, and December 31, 2025. This conference will provide an overview of the law of collective bargaining in public and private sector workplaces, and how local union/unit bargaining committees can prepare for different roles that effective bargaining committees need. The conference will also include two mock bargaining scenarios.
Please bring a copy of your current Collective Bargaining Agreement with you to the training.
Registration and Conference Timeframe
Registration will be held on Monday, September 23, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Cleveland South, located at 6001 Rockside Road in Independence, Ohio. The conference will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. on September 23rd and will conclude at 12:00 noon on September 25th.

Housing Information
The hotel must be contacted directly when making reservations. A block of rooms has been reserved at a special rate of $116 per night (plus state and local taxes). Please make your room reservations as soon as possible, as the hotel will only hold rooms at this rate through August 23, 2024.
