Katelin Sims from USW Local Union 11-205 was selected, along with six other union members from across the country, to attend the International Trade Union Confederation’s (ITUC) Youth Committee conference in Washington D.C., earlier this month.
Forty-five trade unionists from around the world attended the conference to talk about issues that young workers face in various industries, to learn more about the global supply chain and brainstorm ways they can support each other during times of need. Attendees also participated in rally at the Chamber of Commerce to oppose the privatization of Medicare.
The ITUC’s primary mission is the promotion and defense of workers’ rights and interests, through international cooperation between trade unions, global campaigning and advocacy within the major global institutions. Their Youth Committee is an official body of the ITUC composed of 16 members representing Africa, America, Asia-Pacific and Europe.
