United Steelworkers Local 480 regularly helps our surrounding communities with either cash donations with their "boots on the ground" program. Volunteers work in shifts all year at a burger stand and the local farmers market. The bulk of the money donated comes these programs.
Their latest donation of $7,000 was made to support the Gordy Steep Memorial Sick Children’s Fund. Chris Walker, treasurer (left) and Norm Murdoch, financial secretary (right) presented a cheque to Arleen Gallo and Debbie Martin, KBRH Health Foundation Board directors. The Gordy Steep Sick Children’s Fund assists families with expenses when they are travelling to receive advanced care for their sick children.
Here are Local 480 members Steve, Gord, and Jeff at the Silver City Night celebration in downtown Trail. They collected over $600.00 in donations for the Gordie Steep Sick Children Fund by making hot dogs and hot chocolate.
This project is just one of so many that the USW's amazing members do every day to give back to our communities. If you or your local is doing good things, we want to hear about it!
