PLEASE BE SURE TO SUBMIT YOUR REGISTRATION FORM AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE. RESERVING YOUR HOTEL ROOM DOES NOT GUARANTEE YOUR REGISTRATION TO THE CONFERENCE. We want to make sure all Members will be able to attend this very important Education Conference. All lost time and expenses for each Member is the responsibility of the Local Union.

Conference registration is on Monday, October 21st from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm and Tuesday, October 22nd from 6:30 am until 8:30 am.

We are also asking that each Member bring their Local Union Contract to the Conference for their use in different workshops. We will be providing Constitutions to all Members.

This year we will be doing a blood drive with the Michigan Red Cross and a flyer is enclosed with all the details. Should you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to the Taylor office at 734-285-0367 for further information.

Halloween Costume Party

Preparing for the District 1 Education Conference is a huge time-consuming task. Many of the Staff and Support Staff spend countless hours making sure the delegates to the Conference have everything they need to have a successful educational experience. There is nothing more important than educating our local leaders and activists on subjects that position them to represent our members in the best manner possible.

Just as important as the education provided, we also provide a few social events throughout the week.  This allows our local union leaders and activists to get together, talk about similar issues we may have in common and get to know each other to create a strong solidarity network within the District.

As a District we discuss different ways to entertain our delegates after a long day of education classes. This year, since we are only a few days from Halloween, we have decided to have a Halloween costume party instead of a formal sit-down banquet. The theme of the party will be “The History of our Union and the Services we provide.” For example, a miner’s costume would represent the fact that the USW was born from the United Mineworkers through the Steel Workers Organizing Committee (SWOC).  What costume represents the work that you do at your worksite? We look forward to seeing what costumes you come up with.  We want to make this a fun event, so please adhere to the following:

Political costumes, of any political party, are prohibited and WILL NOT BE ALLOWED in the event. Sergeant at Arms will be stationed at the doors to make sure this rule is strictly enforced.
