ASARCO Held Accountable for $11+ Million in Copper Bonuses

Late last year, ASARCO finally completed long overdue Copper Price Bonus payments to 826 of the company’s current and former union workers after years of fighting in arbitration and in court.

All told, management was forced to pay a gross total of $11,312,154.20 to the employees, ex-employees and next of kin, in some cases. The award included more than $230,000 in interest.

Thanks to the tireless dedication of our locals, leaders, staff and attorneys, ASARCO has paid every dime that was wrongly withheld from workers, including $10,702.99 that was deposited into the State of Arizona's Unclaimed Property Registry on behalf of twelve former members who could not be found in spite of our best efforts.

Since the final settlement included bonuses from 2015 that were the subject of unfair labor practice charges, this information will be given to Region 28 of the NLRB for final processing and likely case closure.

Alert: Say NO to Spying!

Our unions soon will be distributing 3,000 hardhat stickers to members protesting ASARCO’s efforts to constantly monitor our members driving haul trucks at Silver Bell, Mission and Ray mines.
