Jobs with Justice Conference Highlights Unfair Labor Practice Strike against ASARCO
Although large gatherings remain on hold for safety reasons, we continue to find ways to spread the word and gain support for our unfair labor practice strike against ASARCO.
On May 14, 2020, USW Local 937 President Eduardo Placencio joined a panel of labor activists to talk about the strike during the Jobs with Justice (JWJ) national conference, which was held online this year due to the ongoing pandemic. JWJ brings together labor and community activists to promote workers’ rights, collective bargaining and social and economic justice.
There are more than three dozen chapters across the country, ranging from Arizona to Texas. The national conference was originally scheduled to take place in Atlanta in mid-March and was going to feature activists from USW Locals 886 and 937 speaking in front of hundreds of participants.
Brother Placencio joined union members from other recent strikes, including teachers, grocery workers and autoworkers, and talked about the stand that our unions and communities have taken in the ASARCO strike.
Everyone who joined the conference was urged to sign our Solidarity Pledge and commit to additional online actions to support our campaign for justice.
The Tucson chapter of Jobs with Justice was instrumental in bringing our struggle to the attention of the national conference, and we appreciate their ongoing support for drive-in pickets at Mission.
