Teaching Tuesdays

MARCH

March 17, 2026: Book Club: Chapter 10, Justice for Janitors and Immigrant Unionism

Join the Education Department in discussing “A History of America in 10 Strikes” by Eric Loomis. Please join us Tuesday, March 17th, as we dive into Chapter 10, “Justice for Janitors and Immigrant Unionism.”

Join us if you have read the chapter or are interested in this evolving development in Unions in the US. The corporate and government attack on unions started in the 1980s and has never stopped. It created a labor movement, different than the early to mid-1900’s that built the middle class. Let’s discuss how unions shifted their attention and changed their organizing models in fighting for better wages and dignity for an often-forgotten workforce in the service workers.

March 21, 2026: Steward Saturday – 12:00 PM

On Steward Saturday we’ll discuss the roles of the steward and then focus in on some skills needed to conduct an investigation: active listening, asking questions, and requesting information from the company.
