Membership Update #1

June 7, 2022

Your USW bargaining committees have met over the last weeks in discussions with plant management regarding local issues.  Last week, the union committee met as a group to discuss open issues at each plant and to develop proposals for the Master Agreement.

There are a variety of open local issues at each plant, and we will continue to stress the importance of resolving the local issues while bargaining the Master Agreement.  At some point, each of our local committees will travel to Cincinnati in an effort to resolve all outstanding local issues.

Today we exchanged proposals with Goodyear. The union’s proposals were based on “one contract for all.” Our proposals were based on bringing the non-grandfather employees to the same level as grandfather employees in terms of wages, health care and pensions, with improvements in these areas for all employees.  We have also identified other areas of concern that need to be corrected.

On the other hand, Goodyear provided us with 24 different proposals that would restrict seniority rights, reduce earnings and weaken our employment security.

Goodyear Americas has done well over the last four years, and their profitability is directly related to our hard work and productivity. For that work we deserve a fair and equitable contract.

We will continue to keep the membership updated as we progress. Remember, our ability to reach a fair contract for all depends on our solidarity and determination.

Unity – Determination – Solidarity
