Let’s vote with the working families of Texas November 7.

As Election Day approaches, we wanted to lift up some very important propositions that will be on the ballot here in Texas. The labor family in our state has taken positions on three of these measures Propositions 3, 8, and 9. We wanted to share with you so you are well informed when you cast your vote.
Here’s what you need to know:
Proposition 3- HJR 132 – “The constitutional amendment prohibiting the imposition of an individual wealth or net worth tax, including a tax on the difference between the assets and liabilities of an individual or family."
- This measure would add language to the Texas Constitution to prohibit the state legislature from imposing a tax based on the wealth or net worth of an individual or family. Texans have already approved Proposition 4 to prohibit the state legislature from adopting a state income tax Prop 3 would preemptively prohibit a “Wealth tax before it has been considered or proposed. This amendment does nothing for working families, and serves only to protect the rich.
Labor's Position: Vote NO to Prop 3
Proposition 8- HJR 125 - "The constitutional amendment creating the broadband infrastructure fund to expand high-speed broadband access and assist in the financing of connectivity projects."
• Prop 8 will create a state Broadband Infrastructure Fund which would be financed through money allocated by the state legislature. We believe every Texan deserves access to affordable, reliable high-speed internet, and support funding that increases broadband access. We also believe this investment needs to come with fair labor standards that ensure the creation of good (union) telecom jobs.
Labor’s Position: Vote YES to Prop 8
Proposition 9- HJR 2 - “The constitutional amendment authorizing the 88th Legislature to provide a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) to certain annuitants of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas."
- Our state’s retired educators have gone two decades without a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). Prop 9 would authorize the Texas Legislature to provide COLA for certain annuitants (persons who receive service retirement, disability retirement, or death benefits from the Teacher Retirement System of Texas), who meet criteria provided by law. Let’s show up for those who dedicated their lives to the education to the children in Texas.
Labor’s Position: Vote YES to Prop 9
