USW Cares: Locals in the “Soo” Extend Their Generous Support of Charities

On the heels of the District 6 Conference held in Sault Ste. Marie, United Steelworkers (USW) local unions are continuing to show their amazing community-driven support.  On December 16, three locals and District 6, on behalf of their members, proved that Steelworkers care about their community.

President of USW Local 2251 Mike Da Prat presented a check of $1,500 to the Sault Ste. Marie Soup Kitchen, a $1,500 to St. Vincent’s and $1,500 to the Children’s Comfort Centre at the ARCH Hospice. In support of the children’s meal programs, Local 2251 donated $10,000 to the Algoma District School Board and $5,250 to the Huron Superior Catholic School Board. In addition, USW delegates will be delivering approximately 140 fruit baskets to local members and retirees who are currently in local nursing homes, the Sault Area Hospital and ARCH.

President of USW Local 2724 Lisa Dale made a donation of $1,000 to the Soup Kitchen and $1,000 to each of the following charities – Sault Star Santa Fund, St. Vincent’s, Pauline’s Place, the Salvation Army and the Children’s Comfort Centre at ARCH.

President of USW Local 9548 Cody Alexander presented a check of $1,000 to the Soup Kitchen.  In addition they donated $1,000 to both the United Way and ARCH.  They will also help laid off members of Local 9548 by providing each of them with a $55 Pino’s gift card.

At the donation event, General Manager of the Soup Kitchen Ron Sim was presented a check for $4,000 from the Steelworkers Humanity Fund.
