Roy Houseman discusses Biden’s pro-worker agenda on The Leslie Marshall Show

USW Legislative Director Roy Houseman appeared on the Leslie Marshall Show yesterday to discuss President Joe Biden’s pro-worker agenda and the USW’s legislative priorities for the new Congress.

Houseman addressed immediate pro-worker legislative items like pandemic relief, as well as longer-term priorities like passing the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, protecting pensions and investing in American infrastructure.

“Our members are ready to see action,” said Houseman. “They want to see action on infrastructure, they want to see action and know their retirement’s safe, and they want to see action so that the benefits they have are enjoyed amongst more workers.”

Houseman also spoke about the importance of appointing members of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) who will protect workers’ interests.

“The NLRB is supposed to be a quick, easy process for workers and employers to find remedy on simple issues, and unfortunately the Trump NLRB politicized themselves in ways that is going to take time to unwind the decades of precedents they tried to reverse,” said Houseman.

Infrastructure investment and committing to buying American-made materials will also be key to moving forward with the creation of good jobs and strong domestic manufacturing, said Houseman.

“Joe Biden and the 117th Congress really have a responsibility to uplift workers and take the time to invest in our infrastructure in the right way and maximize our tax dollars,” said Houseman.
